DP501 Power Cycle

If you're experiencing a bug or glitch with your DP501 receiver, try this Power Cycle procedure first.

Power Cycle Procedure:

  • Unplug power cord from outlet, wait 15 sec or so
  • Plug power cord back into outlet
  • Pull smartcard out and push back in to force receiver to re-read
  • Push and hold power button on front panel for 10 sec.

The Power Cycle step will often fix the problem.  If you continue to have a problem, you can try the Memory Dump procedure.

Memory Dump:

  • Navigate to the "Diagnostics" page by pushing "Menu-6-3" on your remote
  • Push Info, Info, Right Arrow (Browse), Left Arrow (Theme)
  • The Memory Dump & Device Status screen appears
  • Look at the top line, third field from the left. This is the Watchdog Counter. If number displayed is larger than 0005, your receiver might have a problem. If it's much higher, you probably need to replace the receiver.
  • To clear the memory, push the TV/Video or Info button.

Beginning with software version 118, DISH is spooling the FAT table information from the satellite.  This allows us to re-initialize the hard drive file system.

Hard Drive Fat Table Dump:

  • Perform the Memory Dump procedure
  • Push the PVR Stop button instead of the TV/Video or Info button
  • You'll see an Information 315 message saying the hard drive file system has been re-initialized...
  • Pull the power cord from wall or press front panel Power Button.
